Evaluation

At the beginning of the year I was over whelmed with many different ideas for songs. However, I never stuck to one idea and found it very easy to get distracted and move on to another idea without having first finished the original one. I found that using weekly challenges really helped with this and is definitely something I will look to continue using in  the future. I found that having ideas already in my head was very useful and all I needed to do as a composer was arrange the sections like a collage to fit together specific parts of a song until I was happy with it.

Some things I didn't find as easy this year for example, I still struggle with mic set up. I found myself a little over whelmed this year with mic choice and instead of simplifying I wanted to add more. Although I am happy with the way both tracks that have mic recordings sound, I still think a lot of time could have been saved If I had a better understanding of what positions would capture the sound most effectively.

I think my guitar playing this year was a step up from last year, however I believe that there is still a lot of room for improvement. specifically on my track "Insomnia". Listening back to this track I was a little disappointed that my playing was not up to the standard I had wanted. There are one or two moments in the track where the song sounds a little clunky. I think this is partly due to recording both "insomnia" and "Roller" on the same day. Moving forward when recording I will definitely space out each song so that I am not recording two on the one day. I think this will have greater effect on the sound and on my hands as they start to fatigue.

Although there are a few moments on some of my tracks, I am happy with the way they turned out as a whole. I will hopefully be releasing them later on in the year as an "honest album" realising it how it was recorded. In the future I may look to record " insomnia" again and release it as a polished version but at the moment I quite like having something that I think sounds good but I know could be improved on. This will hopefully motivate me more if and when I choose to record it again in a few years..

I will definitely continue using the new techniques that I learnt this year and will hopefully get to a standard where it flows easily. These new techniques in particular  harmonics and tapping are things that I would one day hope to master and feel no hesitation playing  in my compositions.
